Los Angeles colorectal
Los Angeles colorectal cancer surgery is treatment intended for medical conditions where the lining of the rectum or colon has become cancerous.

The surgery basically removes the affected portion of the colon, and may be prescribed along with chemotherapy, depending on how much the cancer has progressed. Among all treatments, surgery is considered the principal method of treatment for all colorectal cancers.

There are, however, different types of surgeries that may be performed, and this is decided upon by the surgeon based on the amount of colon or rectal tissue to be taken off, and that of other affected nearby tissues. Of all the different types, segmental resection or colectomy is most often used.

This entails cutting off a part or many parts of the colon, depending on how much of it has become cancerous. The surgeon practically removes that portion of the colon that has been affected by the cancer, after which he joins the healthy ends through stitches.

Physicians specializing in proctology are called colorectal surgeons or proctologists. In the United States, to become colorectal surgeons, these surgical doctors have to complete a general surgery residency, as well as a colorectal surgery fellowship, upon which they are eligible to be certified in their field of expertise by the ABCRS or AOBP.
